The Cascades: Lassen to Crater Lake–June 21-27, 2015 (6 nights)

Starting at Lassen Volcanic National Park for two nights, we explore the southern part of the Cascades Range, the chain of volcanoes that run from northern California up into British Columbia. Our next stop is Mount Shasta, one of David’s favorite mountains for two nights. Then we finish our workshop with two nights at Crater Lake National Park. Crater Lake is the collapsed caldera of the volcano, which erupted over 7000 years ago and formed the lake. The deep blue lake is the deepest lake in the US at 1900ft deep. Wide angle lenses are the order of the day for spectacular shots of the lake and Wizard Island.

We will of course be looking for those situations when the great light makes for special images, and David is the master of great light . . . he seems to bring it!!

Tour Cost - $3725.00

David Muench

David Muench has been photographing the landscape in all its grandeur for half a century, traveling the U.S., his camera is as much a part of him as his innovative eye.  Inventor of original and oft-imitated approaches to the landscape, the craft and art of photography are paramount, yet nothing is more important than sharing the wilderness with viewers.

“When photographing, I tune in to the natural rhythms and pulse of the land . . . to communicate and champion the stark beauty that is nature – its wildness. . .”  “I am inspired by the power and beauty of the primal landscape,” Muench says.  “In the unending experience it offers of light, space and time, I engage in my equally unending search for sublime beauty.”

David has been photographing with digital cameras for several years now, and is enjoying the spontaneity it allows. Being in the moment and getting immediate feedback has he has been able to approach familiar locations in new ways.

Our Workshops

All of our workshops begin on the evening of the first day and end after breakfast on the last morning. All lodging and meals during the workshop are included (except alcoholic beverages). We carpool during the workshop for ease of parking and so we impact the areas we are shooting as little as possible. Transportation to & from the start/end locations is not included. We specialize in small groups, never more than 8 participants. Lodgings included are singles, if shared rooms are requested we will try to  accomodate if possible and I will advise the cost reduction on a case by case basis.    While shooting is our number one purpose, we will try to find some opportunities for David to critique your work as we go, so you can get real time feedback and integrate his suggestions and integrate his suggestions the next time we shoot. As time allows David may also share slide presentations of his work as inspiration and as a teaching tool.
